Le 9 avril 2020, en pleine crise sanitaire, Pfizer annonce la signature d’un accord de collaboration sur les bases suivantes :
- Développement d’un vaccin contre le Covid-19, initialement pour les États-Unis et l’Europe
- BioNTech fournit plusieurs candidats vaccins pour des tests cliniques
- Une fois validé cliniquement, Pfizer obtient les autorisations, fabrique et commercialise le vaccin retenu
- Le chiffre d’affaires et les coûts du vaccin Covid-19 sont répartis à 50/50 entre Pfizer et BioNTech avec, toutefois, un apport financier initial de Pfizer pour BioNTech, à rembourser lors de la commercialisation

- Revenues and costs for the Covid-19 vaccine are split 50/50 between Pfizer and BioNTech, with, however, an initial financial contribution from Pfizer to BioNTech, to be repaid upon commercialization
